Paneling, Hardwood Plywood Layup and UV Finishing Facility

The facility was constructed in 1966 by Evans Products and operated by them until 1975, when it was purchased by Weyerhaeuser. Chesapeake Hardwood Products, Inc. was formed in 1989 and acquired the assets of the Paneling Division of Weyerhaeuser Company.

The continual retrofitting of the production lines and the incorporation of new technological advances enables CHPI to meet the ever changing needs of its customers and remain a viable and innovative supplier of wall paneling plus raw and finished hardwood plywood to all phases of the building products and cabinet industries. Program sales of a wide variety of related products are focused on retail home centers, lumber and building material distributors, industrial distributors and major cabinet manufacturers.

Historically, CHPI has been unique in the industry because of its ability to combine its ties to raw material suppliers with product flexibility built around in-house hardwood plywood production and multiple finishing lines. Plywood and MDF are imported from the Pacific Rim, South America and China for conversion into hardwood plywood and prefinished panels.

HARDWOOD PLYWOOD LAY-UP OPERATION| In 2003, a 120-thousand sq-ft plant within a plant was brought on line. This state-of-the-art operation produces hardwood plywood utilizing veneer core, MDF core and particle board core in 4'x6' and 4'x8' sizes and 5/32"-1" thicknesses.

UV TOPCOATING OPERATION| Completed in early 2000, this line is capable of producing 4,000 sides per shift of clear coating, staining and 1- and 2- sided over-printing. Chesapeake's sanding and sealing capability provides a superior Diamondized UV finish.

FLATLINE OPERATIONS| Two print lines have the capacity to produce 8,000 to 10,000 panels each per day on a one-shift basis. A third laminating line can produce 9,000 panels on a single shift. A fourth "cold" line runs vinyl lamination and also enables paper lamination to panel backs with a 5,500 per shift output.
